Rex Power Magnetics, a division of Transfactor
Industries Inc., is a Canadian, privately owned manufacturer of
commercial and industrial dry type transformers. The company was
founded in 1972 and has grown steadily, especially in the past ten
to fifteen years. Currently it employs 180 people and enjoys annual
sales revenues of over $25 million.
Strategy
Approximately ten years ago Rex began to pursue
a strategy to expand its product lines and markets. Since this technology
driven approach was initiated, the company has grown at a rate of
approximately 20% per year which is substantial and in excess of
market demand. For committed rapid growth the company has committed
its resources to the further expansion of its product lines by the
constant research and development of new products.
Product Development
The Rex product line includes control transformers,
machine tool transformers, all specialty type transformers, reactors,
auto- transformers, standard distribution/isolation type, and high
voltage dry type power transformers up to 8 MVA and 35,000 voltage
class. Rex Power Magnetics devotes a considerable amount of resources,
effort and time to the research and development of new products,
operating as a CSA certified and UL listed custom transformer manufacturer.
The latest addition achievement of Rex research and development
is the implementation of an Epoxy Cast Coil manufacturing process.
 To highlight the company's commitment to
quality products and excellence in customer service, Rex Power Magnetics
achieved ISO9001 registration in 2000.

Markets
Currently the company markets 65% of its produced
products to the domestic Canadian market. Approximately 35% of Rex
Power Magnetics's sales are derived from exports, primarily to the
United States, the Far East and the Middle East.

Technical Capabilities
Rex Power Magnetics has the engineering capability
to design, manufacture and test all standard and specialty dry type
transformers and related magnetic products. Power transformers to
8 MVA and 150KV BIL. All Rex Power Magnetics products are CSA certified
and most are UL listed including power transformers.
Rex maintains a complete sheet metal fabrication
and paint facility to manufacture its own transformer enclosures,
core clamps, brackets and accessories as well as manufacturing custom
enclosures for others.
The Rex engineering and design team consists of
six highly competent individuals with many years of transformer
design experience.
Rex Power Magnetics has made a commitment to product
quality and the research and development of new products. Because
of this commitment, the company retains the services of two prominent
engineering consultants:
- Mr. Douglas Hazelton P. Eng. - over 45 years
experience in power transformer design.
- Mr. Narayan Shankar - over 37years experience
in power transformer design.
