Efficient, Low-Noise Dry-Type Distribution Transformers for Offices, Retail, Institutions and Public Infrastructure

In a building with many distribution transformers, small differences in loss and sound add up. A 600 V or 480 V feeder may supply 208Y/120 V lighting, receptacles and tenant equipment, while nearby occupants set a practical limit on noise. Rex Power Magnetics builds commercial building transformers for these conditions, with the efficiency, harmonic capacity, enclosure and footprint selected from the actual panel schedule and installation location.

Features and Benefits

Efficiency across the building. Specify DOE- or NRCan-compliant transformers as applicable and compare losses at the expected load profile. A continuous 0.25 kW loss reduction saves 2,190 kWh annually before cooling effects.

Sound limits matched to the room. Low-noise transformers suit electrical rooms adjoining classrooms, hotels, offices, or libraries. Set measurable limits to NEMA ST-20 and consider mounting and structure-borne vibration. Standard units remain economical for remote rooms.

Harmonic capability. K4 and K13 options accommodate heating from specified nonlinear loads, with 200% neutrals available where warranted. K-rating improves thermal tolerance, not harmonic distortion; select ratings based on the actual load mix.

Custom dimensions for retrofit. Wall, floor, low-profile, or stacked arrangements can address constrained spaces. Verify cooling clearance, access, and conductor bend space before finalizing the footprint.

Seismic qualification. Seismically qualified constructions are available for designated facilities. Verify certification against site demand, installation height, anchorage, and the supplied configuration.

Construction for exposed spaces. Encapsulated and outdoor-rated designs suit parking structures, rooftops, and damp or dusty areas when construction matches the exposure. Confirm applicable efficiency requirements for the selected product class.

Customization and Engineering Support

Sizing and configuration. Select kVA, K-factor, voltage class and taps from the panel schedule and load calculation, including defined EV-charging or HVAC growth. On Canadian 600 V projects, coordinate applicable CSA C22.2 No. 47 certification, the adopted Canadian Electrical Code and provincial authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).

Footprint and installation. Review wall, floor, stacked or replacement arrangements against the actual drawing, conductor entry, ventilation and service clearance. Match retrofit dimensions when relocation is impractical.

Monitoring and protection. Add temperature sensing, alarm contacts and BAS/BMS signals where facility staff can use the data to respond to abnormal operating conditions.
