Marine Duty

Marine-Classified Transformers for Vessels and Offshore Installations

Marine and offshore environments are among the most demanding applications for electrical equipment. Continuous vibration, salt-laden air, confined-space installation constraints, restricted maintenance access, and strict classification society requirements all shape what a transformer needs to be. Rex designs and manufactures dry-type transformers configured for these conditions and certified to marine industry standards, supporting commercial vessels, offshore platforms, shipyards, and port infrastructure.

Features and Benefits

ABS-certified construction. Rex marine-duty transformers are certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), with formal documentation supporting vessel classification and survey requirements.

Lloyd’s Register and DNV available on request. For projects requiring Lloyd’s Register or DNV certification, Rex coordinates on-site witness testing at our facility — supporting the specific classification society and project requirements without re-tooling.

Corrosion-resistant materials and finishes. Stainless steel hardware, marine-grade powder coating, sealed terminations, and Type 4X enclosures available for installations exposed to salt-laden air, spray, and humidity.

Vibration-resistant design. Reinforced core and coil bracing, robust winding support, and secure mounting designed to handle continuous shipboard vibration without insulation fatigue or core loosening.

Compact form factors. Engineered to fit the space and weight constraints typical of vessel electrical rooms, machinery spaces, and offshore equipment skids.

Customization and Engineering Support

Classification coordination. ABS certification standard, with Lloyd’s Register and DNV witness testing arranged at our facility on request. Documentation packages prepared to support vessel classification and survey.

Vessel-specific design. Voltage, kVA, taps, and form factor matched to the vessel’s electrical system, available footprint, and weight allowances.

Material and finish specification. Stainless steel, marine-grade coatings, sealed enclosures, and corrosion-resistant terminations specified to the vessel’s operating environment — coastal, deep-water, polar, or tropical.
