EV charging — particularly DC fast charging — places demands on a transformer that ordinary distribution units aren’t designed to meet. Continuous high-current operation, significant harmonic distortion from charger power electronics, and rapid load swings as vehicles connect and disconnect all stress the transformer differently than a typical commercial or industrial load.
