Temporary Power

Portable Transformers for Construction, Events, and Emergency Power

Temporary power applications place a different set of demands on a transformer than permanent installations. Equipment must move between sites, connect quickly to varying incoming voltages, withstand outdoor weather and rough handling, and tolerate the surge loads typical of construction equipment, event production, and emergency response. Rex builds dry-type transformers configured for these conditions — used by construction contractors, rental fleet operators, event production companies, and disaster response teams across North America.

Features and Benefits

Rapid deployment. Skid-mounted and quick-connect configurations allow setup in minutes rather than hours. Designed for crews who don’t have time to commission a transformer the way they would on a permanent site.

Weather-rated enclosures. Type 4 and Type 4X powder-coated steel enclosures with gasketed doors are rated for outdoor deployment in dust, rain, and Canadian winter conditions. Type 4X adds corrosion resistance for coastal, marine-adjacent, and chemical exposure sites. Built to handle extended exposure between site moves.

Voltage flexibility. Multiple primary taps and dual-primary windings allow a single transformer to accommodate the range of incoming voltages typical of utility supplies, on-site generators, and uncertain power sources at remote locations.

High overload capacity. Short-term overload ratings handle the surge loads typical of welding equipment, motor starting, lighting inrush, and event production loads without nuisance trips or thermal damage.

Quick-connect terminations. Cam-lock connectors and pin-and-sleeve receptacles available as standard or specified options, enabling fast and consistent connection across rental fleets and crews.

Customization and Engineering Support

Voltage and connection specification. Custom tap arrangements, cam-lock and pin-and-sleeve termination options, and matching to the generators, distribution panels, and load equipment your crews actually use.

Compact form factors. Skid-mounted and caged configurations sized for transport on standard equipment trailers and forklift handling at the receiving end.

Protection and monitoring. Integrated breakers, surge protection, and remote temperature monitoring compatible with rental fleet management systems and SCADA networks for distributed deployments.
